Middle school students in SIS might not know Mrs. Seefeld, a high school Math teacher, and probably won’t, since unfortunately, she is leaving this year. Many students acknowledge her for being a great teacher, but as being a son of Mrs. Seefeld, not only is she an amazing teacher, but an amazing mother.
Students often do not get the chance to really get to know with their teachers, and not really get close to them and become friends with them. Ben had the chance to connect with a teacher pretty closely, after all, she is his mother. In addition, some of her students were able to hang out with her from extracurricular events, such as, Global Issues Network, since she is the advisor for the club. As the advisor, she went to Thailand for charity with some high schoolers, and she said, “Going to Thailand was an amazing experience for not only me, but all of the people that I went with.” Mrs. Seefeld teaches, but also goes kayaking, plays with her adopted rescue dog and fights with her son. Since she was here, she made many new memories, went to new places, and experienced new things, but now she is ready to leave Korea.
Mrs. Seefeld and her family is leaving this year due to wanting to stay with her “mother who’s 91, before she passes, and because our friends and family are still back in America, and we miss them”. “Our years at SIS mean a great deal to us”, she said, “I will remember about South Korea even when I go back to Oregon.” Farewell Mrs. Seefeld, we will miss you!
