Transition to Highschool

It is five weeks before the school year ends and five weeks before 8th grade students leave middle school. Since August 2015, our 8th grade teachers tried their best to prepare students for their major transition to high school. They taught and prepared us, students, not only academically, but also socially as well.
Achieving well academically is definitely important when applying to college. However, grades aren’t everything that determines the student’s future. To be successful, being responsible and being able to manage time efficiently are also crucial. Our 8th grade teachers taught both of these skills to their students.
Our 8th grade teachers helped us, students, in becoming responsible students in many ways. For example, Ms. Burns asked the students to finish their homework on the day it was assigned. By doing this, we learned how to manage time efficiently. If there is a concept that the students do not understand, they could ask her the next day preventing the assignment from being late and students staying confused. Therefore, teaching us to be more responsible helped us get better grades and understand the concepts more thoroughly.
This group of teachers also emphasized the importance of having good relationships between the teachers and friends. They tried their best to build teamwork in each homeroom which included showing team spirit during house team games by encouraging students to wear their t-shirts. Taking it one step further, Mr. Brodhead even brought bed sheets for the students so that they can paint their own team flag. Also, recently all the 8th grade core teachers participated in the beep test along with the students to build their relationship. The 8th grade teachers taught us that studying is important but meeting good friends and teachers is also important at the same time.
As the year slowly comes to an end and students start preparing themselves for high school, all skills they learned from their 8th grade teachers — whether the skill is something related to education, being responsible, being able to time manage well, or any other lesson — are definitely very beneficial for the students. As a group, we are or should be very thankful to these teachers for volunteering to become the important ladder towards our future goal.
